Cleaned up Version

Submitted design #54451

Sounds like you had a great time away from home!
We have been very busy since I last talked to you, and I have had very little time to work on any designs. Day to day life turned into disaster to disaster life around here! Stud horse got in with the mares, fix fence, sort out the mess. Moved my broiler chickens and pullets into larger pens, some of the broilers got really excited, and we had to butcher several a couple weeks early (they over-exercised, and 10 out of 75 of them had heart attacks!). Pork needed picked up from the butcher's, spare freezer quit working, had to replace it. Bull tore out 1/4 mile of fence, and we had to go get him from a cousin's place about 85 miles away and bring him home, fix more fence so his & our heifers would not get out! What a week!
Now, for the tattoo!
This is the latest version that I came up with. I see that I could smooth out the one heart design a bit, and make it flow a bit better. Other than that, I leveled out some of the symbols, and changed the bells and other symbols under the main design. There may be a few color variations from the first one, also, I widened the black borders on the hearts. Let me know what you think. If I need to make more changes I can do so. Hopefully we should be around. Going to haul hay tonight, otherwise, I should be around most of the time. Catch ya later!

25th Anniversary

Wow I had no idea that Nebraska had rattlesnakes. I think the crazy weather in North America has something to do with the fact that there are weird things going on out there. ie snakes where there aren't supposed to be any. I did hear about the fires - again - crazy stuff.

Tell the kids - chin up. Everything happens for a reason but sometimes it take awhile for the reason to make sense.

We have 3 kids also. Daughter 34 with 2 girls(our fantastic grandkids 9 and 7), son 23 living and going to school in Hollywood (sound engineering) and a son 21 going into his 4th year of university in anthropology and phsycology. We have been empty nesters since last Septemeber but when then all come home its crazy and loud but fun fun fun.

Will be in contact on my return.

Thanks for the chat. And keep those dogs inside :)

I hate snow!

We live in Nebraska. Have you heard about the 3 wildfires in the Sandhills a couple weeks ago? We live about 10 miles south of the middle fire. All 3 were sparked by lightning, and in the canyons, so they were hard to get to, and they were way out of control by the time the firefighters could even get to them. Anyway, that's where I live. This summer has been kind of tough all the way around for our kids. I have a 15 year old, a 14 year old, and 10 year old twins. They are beginning to think it's time for school to start up, maybe our luck will change then (kid's logic!) We had 3 dogs, but one died about a month ago, old age is my guess. He was a Red Heeler/Australian Sheppard cross. We also have a ?????? dog that was left in a friends truck as a pup, and then Roxette, the one that got bit. She is a black lab and boxer cross, with maybe a bit more mixed in there somewhere. The ???? dog is also laid up right now from a fight with a raccoon earlier this summer. So, it's been tough on the kids. We also have a herd of horses (12 at last count). As for the snow, we get plenty of that for me around here. Thankfully we don't have a lot of rattlers right here, but you do get into an area where there are a lot of them about 5 miles north in the canyons along the Niobrara River (sounds kind of odd, that we are that close to where there are so many, but until the last couple of years, we were considered to be in an area where there were supposedly no poisonous snakes! Not the case anymore. This summer alone, I have heard of several people at least 20 miles further south of us that have killed several rattlers, or lost cattle from snake bites.
Have a great vacation, and I'll be waiting to hear how relaxed and refreshed you are around the 20th!

25th Anniversary

OMG so sorry to hear about your dog but glad she's doing better. We are dog lovers too so I totally get the attahcment thing. We have a black lab, a shitzu and by son has an English bull terrior. Full house with dogs when everyone is home.

I can't imagine living near rattlesnakes. You must live near the desert? We were in Pheonix this past April and love it. Also love Palm Springs which is also desert like.

We are in Canada so no rattlers here. Just tons of snow in the winter. Thats usually when we try to escape to the warmer States or Mexico.

Anyway, no problem on the designs - off on vacation tomorrow so I may not answer you until week of the 20th if that's ok.

Enjoy you week and I hope your dog makes a speed recovery.

Cleaning up the design

I will be cleaning up this design today, and get it re-submitted.
Sorry, I really didn't mean to ignore you. Our dog got bitten by a rattlesnake on Sunday, and it's been kind of touch and go all week. Finally yesterday, she started to act more normal, and the swelling is down some, so is the fever. Looks like we'll have her around a while longer! Thank God for answered prayers!
Okay, now back to your design. I have been working on a second design with the other layout. 2 leaves, rather than 4. I should be able to have both that and the cleaned up version of the other one up some time today. Thanks for understanding about the dog, she is young, and my kids are pretty attached to her.

Did you get a chance to clean this up?

I really love your design and I wish I had only extended the contest for a couple of days so that I could declare you the winner.

You really capture everything I wanted for this very special tattoo - thanks so much

Modifications

Submitted design #52346

I will need to make a few modifications to this design. I have a few minor mess-ups when the lights were flickering. One of them is the bells. They are not even, and alike. I was working on the outlines when the electricity started to mess up. There are a couple more areas like that too. I can easily rearrange, or remove anything you would like. Also, the colors are not cut and dried. The drawing I have in front of me is as you see it, however, I can easily re-ink it in other colors, or possibly modify it on the computer, if it is only a small area. I also did not have the time to get 2 pictures done for you, so, I could also work up another design with the other one you liked (with 2 leaves). I could also add a ribbon (scarf, which is also symbolic to Mayan marriage. Again, I did not find a true explanation for the scarf, however, it is mentioned in nearly all references to their weddings, and marriages). The purpose that a ribbon would serve in this tattoo would be to maybe bring it all together a little better. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see different, and I will work with you till the design is perfect. Thanks!

Would you consider an extension of a day or so?

I don't think I'm going to get your design finished tonight. I do all the coloring on all my designs by hand, and our lights keep flickering on and off. Not sure what's going on, but I think it might be best to give it a break for this evening, and just finish it up tomorrow, rather than take a chance of totally ruining a design. If everything settles down in the next little while, and the lights stay on, I'll go ahead and finish the design tonight.

These are the symbols I found

Submitted design #52274

These are the symbols I found that represent the various things mentioned earlier in reference to marriage and anniversaries in the written Mayan language and/or used in carvings to represent the same. There are more detailed symbols, but they refer to a specific wedding, or marriage ceremony, so that is one of the reasons I chose to use the simpler symbols. Also, they will show up better and stay clearer in a tattoo design. I would appreciate it if you would look at the symbols for marriage and let me know if you prefer any one best, or truly dislike one of the designs. I will then incorporate the design(s) you prefer into the overall design. Thanks!

A couple more things I found.

There were 2 more things I found in my research. The Easter Lily is used in Mayan wedding ceremonies to represent purity and faithfulness, and a red cone shaped (Plumeria maybe) flower is also usually used with the Easter Lilies in the wedding bouquet. Again, I'm not sure of the symbolism of this specific flower. Are you interested in incorporating these into the design? If so, the hummingbird and butterfly will be easier to make look "natural" with the flow of the design, if not, that won't be a problem either. Let me know. I may have time to do the design both with and without the flowers.
Thanks!

Cool ideas that I have for your tattoo

I have been researching Mayan symbols since I last responded to your request. These are some of the things that I found out:
Symbols and symbolism is a very important part of all Mayan Weddings, Anniversaries, Joinings (Renewal of wedding vows fit into this category). The most important symbols that are represented in reference to weddings are: Fire, Earth, Water, Air or Wind, and the Sun. I have found some ancient symbols that were used in Mayan culture to represent each of these elements.
I found how to write the number 25 in Mayan symbols, and also found a symbol for the phrase "New Moon Together", or "New Joining". I have also found several symbols for marriage that were used in Mayan Carvings.
Also, the hummingbird was an important symbol in Mayan Weddings. Check out this web site for the legend of the hummingbird and it's relationship to marriage and the colors represented in their marriages:
www.scribd.com/doc/50035305/mayan-hummingbird-legend
It is a really cool story.
Another symbolic creature represented in many Mayan weddings is a black, red, and white butterfly. Not sure why those specific colors, as I have not found any specific reference to the colors in relation to the wedding ceremony. The butterfly itself represents "change, and a new beautiful view on life". On another web site, I found where a butterfly of many colors was referred to in the Mayan Celebrations for many years together.
I also found where a infinity symbol, and a swirling trifoil symbol were used in Mayan symbols to represent Unity, Passion, and Sexuality.

I can incorporate most of this easily into your design, and should have it done before your contest ends. The one limiting factor that I see on getting this entered today would be the weather, as we have some major thunderstorms forming in our area, and they are predicted to continue all day and into the night. I will also type up an explanation of all the symbols and their meanings for you so you would have them as reference to explain the symbols on your tattoo. I'll also try to keep the design from getting cluttered, and still have a classy and very meaningful design for you shortly.
This looks like it could be challenging, but fun! I will be working on this as soon as I send this message your way. Wish me luck!

25th Anniversary

I'm really liking your designs but I need something that represents 25 years of marriage (Silver wedding anniversary) as well as some Mayan influence in the design.

Are you up for the challenge? This is going on my rib cage so lots of colour - please

Thanks

Color Variations

Submitted design #52150

I can do any of these designs with other colors if desired, or mix any 2 or however many necessary up to make one perfect design. (Leaf coloring and pattern of color, or heart coloring or pattern of color variations). Just let me know what you would like to see. Thanks!

Clarification

Would you like to have the black areas left, and an addition of color? High-lighting around the edges, or would you prefer to see the black areas colored? Also, which colors? I am assuming red on the hearts, and maybe green on the leaves. Also, something to consider is silver-gray on the leaves to show that it is to celebrate 25 years together. The addition of colors should be a fairly easy addition. I do also have a couple more similar designs that I have not inked in yet. Would you be interested in seeing them as well? Thanks!

Changes?

Submitted design #51536

These are a couple of designs that came to mind for you. If you would like to see a bit of color added, let me know, it should not be a problem to add a little color, and still retain the elegance of these designs. Also, if you would prefer to have them arranged or colored entirely different, let me know. Thanks!
